Invisalign or Braces: Which is Better?

Invisalign or braces? Supermodel Karlie Kloss also faced this dilemma, just like millions of people looking to improve their smile. In an interview to Into The Gloss, she talked about choosing the plastic retainer route to straight teeth.

“I’m doing Invisalign—I just pop them in; I only wear them at night because I can’t talk when they’re in and it’s embarrassing. But I think they’re way better than braces. That’s pretty much the only beauty ‘service’ I get; going to my orthodontist in St. Louis. [laughs]”

Whether wearing them just at night is adequate is a question for an orthodontist. There is a good chance that on non-celebrity teeth, the retainer would only do its magic when worn considerably more often. Yet it’s an individual decision, and as they say, results vary.

Most orthodontists recommend wearing the product at all times when not eating. It is not recommended to eat and chew gum with this product. Even with such strict regimen, it may take between six months and two years for the teeth to reach the desirable alignment. Because the body is constantly changing, the dentist may recommend wearing the retainer for an additional amount of time after the treatment is complete. Using Invisalign sporadically can prolong the treatment and cause adverse effect as teeth change position but don’t fix in place.

What are some of the pros of Invisalign? The trays can be taken out, which allows to avoid uncomfortable social situations and helps keep the teeth clean. And you don’t have to worry about peanuts and sticky food that can damage braces. The Teen version also works well for self-conscious teens who would much rather prefer clear, practically invisible retainers than metal.

What are some cons? Depending on the length of treatment and the original condition of the teeth, Invisalign can be more expensive than braces, with price ranging between $3,000 and $7,000.

Whether you decide to on the clear tray or traditional braces, finding the best specialist is key to speedy and safe results. Redmond dentist, Dr. Frost, has specialized in Invisalign and performs Invisalign treatments as one of his main focuses. Finding an Invisalign dentist like him is the goal of your research.
